Learn about the WSSP
Conceived of in 1979 by Dr. James Lord, a handful of local prosthodontists met to discuss the concept of forming a prosthodontic organization that would represent the interests of prosthodontics in the State of Washington. As the idea evolved, the group formed the WSSP to be a unified group that would be a voice to discuss the role of prosthodontics with the insurance carriers and affiliated specialties. In 1979, most insurance carriers recognized the dental specialties with the exception of prosthodontics, so a major emphasis was to educate both the insurance companies as well as the public to the benefits of the specialty of prosthodontics.
The WSSP became an official organization in the Spring of 1980 with Dr. James Lord as the first president. It has evolved to include prosthodontists throughout the State of Washington and now is the major voice of fixed, removable, and maxillofacial prosthodontics. The organization has made contributions to dentistry through education about the field of dental prosthetics as well as encouraging a higher standard of dentistry throughout the State. Many members of the WSSP contribute to advanced dental education through study clubs, faculty appointments and dental lectures throughout the country as well as the world.
A major emphasis of the WSSP is the advancement of both prosthodontics and dentistry. The organization sponsors guest lecturers at the meetings every year to inform the members of state of the art advances in dentistry and medicine. Respected authorities discuss topics at the highest levels and proficiency to keep the members informed and knowledgeable. The members of the WSSP are actively involved in addressing issues relative to the highest standards of dentistry through a grievance committee and expert opinion of prosthodontic dentistry.
